I had always desired to write my story but was unable to do so because of other commitments related to work. However, now that I have retired, I have ample time to concentrate and put my thoughts together on paper.
I began writing my biography in bits and pieces in 2021. But it was not until I joined the CLC draft writing class that I was able to put down all my thoughts in an orderly manner from the introduction to the body inclusive of various chapters ending with the conclusion. I found that writing the bio, the dedication and acknowledgement was a fairly straight forward thing to do.
I appreciated the classes given by Dr. Muthoni Omukhango, Jackline Ingasian and the team as they helped to set me on the right path and gave me insights on what to do as I embarked on this writing journey. Writing the table of contents helped me to organize my work and thoughts into seven chapters. Thereafter I was able to focus and write what was relevant in each chapter as pertaining to the working title which is, ‘spiritual healing’. I decided to target my book at women, who are single, separated, divorced and widowed because such women have probably gone through experiences that call for divine intervention. .
I used the principle of show and tell, dialogue, statistics, anecdotes and in cooperated background details to make the story interesting.
The main challenge for me was keeping up with the deadlines so as to submit my work by Thursday in readiness for the Friday class. However, at times due to working late into the night I was able to complete and forward my work by the wee hours of the morning, on a few of the Fridays.
In conclusion I can say that the whole experience was very rewarding as it taught me a lot about the do’s and don’ts of writing.
