Organization Background
CLC Kenya ( www.kenyaclc.org ) is a Christian missions organization started in 2007 to impact Kenya and Africa with Christian literature. We are affiliated to CLC International started in 1941 in Colchester by a couple, Ken and Bessie Adams during World War II to give hope to their community during such a difficult time.
Today, CLC maintains its headquarters in England and is spread in about 44 countries in the world with a mandate to:
“Honor God by making Christian literature & resources available & accessible to all nations so that people may come to faith and maturity in our Lord Jesus Christ”
About the Program
The Mama Africa Book Box Program is designed to equip, empower, and nurture young children (aged 5-12) and teenagers (aged 13-20) in Kenya with a passion for reading and writing books with Christian content. Our program aims to provide an avenue filled with engaging Christian literature for children.
Objectives
1. Promote Literacy: By providing children and teenagers with access to a diverse range of books, we aim to foster a love for reading and improve literacy levels among participants.
2. Foster Creativity: Our program encourages young minds to explore their creativity and express themselves through writing. By exposing them to Christian-themed literature, we aim to inspire them to create their own stories and narratives.
3. Instill Christian Values: The books included in the Mama Africa Book Box are carefully selected to align with Christian principles and values. Through these stories, we aim to impart moral lessons and spiritual guidance to the participants.
4. Empower Communities: By investing in the education and development of young individuals, we believe we are contributing to the long-term empowerment and transformation of communities in Kenya.
Methodology
The methodology of MABB involves physical monthly meetings, held every 4th Saturday at Kenya National Library Services (KNLS) Upper Hill, Nairobi.
The sessions commence with a moment of reading and reflection for kids and teens, followed by devotions. A highlight of the session is the meet-the-author segment, providing a platform for interaction and mentorship between the children and authors.
We then have a health break where children take snacks and juices, promoting physical well-being. The kids then engage in a colouring activity, fostering creativity.
The session concludes with gratitude notes to parents and closure, encapsulating a holistic approach to nurturing young minds through literature, mentorship, and creative expression.
A parrallel virtual session is conducted for children out of Nairobi and also out of Kenya. By using technology, we are bringing children in Anglophone Africa together in one platform to enjoy reading, writing, publishing and impacting their generation.
This is a fun-filled event featuring interactive storytelling, book discussions, and engaging activities to bring the children together.
Specifically, your support could take the form of:
1. Financial Contributions: Your financial support will help us cover the costs associated with procuring books, assembling book boxes, and distributing them to participating schools and communities.
2. In-kind Donations: Donations of Christian-themed books, stationery items, merchandise items and other relevant resources, and snacks and drinks for children would be invaluable in enriching the content of our book boxes and enhancing the learning experience for our participants.
3. Promotional Support: Your assistance in promoting the Mama Africa Book Box Program through your networks and channels would help us raise awareness and attract more support for this noble cause.
