A Heartfelt Experience at Chariots for Hope: Testimonial by Leslie Maya

I am filled with gratitude as I reflect on the recent trip to Chariots for Hope Children’s Home in Kitui on 30th October 2024. I would like to start by thanking God for His provision in our transport to and from Kitui. The van we received was larger and more comfortable than I expected, making our journey smooth and filled with positive energy. This truly set the tone for the mission, and we all felt excited and ready to engage.

Preparation Before the Mission

I also want to acknowledge Dr. Muthoni Omukhango, who prepared us well before the trip. Her guidance helped me emotionally prepare for the children’s stories, some of which I knew would be touching or heartbreaking. I was also ready physically for the activities we would do together, and mentally for seeing their living conditions. Even though I felt a little nervous when we arrived, her preparation made me feel equipped to handle the day.

Connecting with the Children

When we introduced ourselves, I was amazed by the children’s talents. Some were exceptional dancers, others skilled in public speaking, storytelling, or sports. It was clear that these kids knew how to use their gifts well, and being around them was lively and fun. Their energy was contagious, and I couldn’t help but be impressed by their unique names and the strong sense of community they had built.

Fun and Meaningful Activities

The day was packed with enjoyable and meaningful activities. We began with a group read-aloud session where the children selected books, read for 25 minutes, and then shared summaries of what they had read. They took this seriously, and it was clear they valued our visit. The children even made group cheers to celebrate the stories, and it was so heartwarming to see their enthusiasm.

The balloon games were a hit, bringing out lots of laughter and friendly competition, even among those who weren’t usually competitive. We also had a creative session where the children told stories using toys. Watching their imaginations come alive was incredible, and the whole experience boosted their creativity.

Best Part of the Trip

For me, the highlight of the day was the interaction we had with the children. Their energy and positive attitude left a lasting impression on me. They welcomed us with open hearts and participated wholeheartedly in everything we did together.

I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the MABB Reading Club for giving us this opportunity. This experience has taught me the importance of gratitude and the value of praying for those who have less than we do. It has truly opened my eyes to what a mission means, and I am deeply thankful.
