Yego Library Books Drive – Community Outreach

Join the CLC Kenya family as we encourage and support Teteyian Nangurai to honour her late husband’s memory…

A Story of Love and Honour

Nic (Nicholas Kibet Yego) as his wife, Teteyian fondly called him came from a small village in Nandi called Nyinyira in Aldai County. The village is small with a population of about 500 people. To date, there are less than 15 people with degrees in the entire village. He was the first one to get a degree in the village. Fortunately, he was bright and managed to get a sponsorship up to the university level.

Nic and Teteyian had a dream together to build a school in his village as there was none. The students have to walk for miles to access books. However, before actualizing that dream, Nic got sick and passed on. At that time, there was just a small construction we had started.

Each year, when Teteyian and her children celebrated Nic’s anniversary, she wondered how she could keep his memory alive. One day, the thought of a Library came to her. She consulted the family and area Administration and they loved the idea. And so her journey began. Through friends and well wishers, she started phase one of the plan in August 2021. The construction is ongoing and the dream will finally cease to be a dream.

It will be an honour to a loving husband and dear father, from a loving family.

Phase 2 – Our Contribution

The Yego Library targets children aged 4yrs-14yrs (kindergarten to primary level). Teteyian’s aim is to create and promote a reading culture among the children in the village – from a young age.

Donate Books… Studies show that increasing access to books increases the amount of reading a community can do. Consequently, increased reading leads to improved achievement in reading, writing, spelling, grammar, and vocabulary. This is the gift we seek for the Nyinyira children.

We welcome new and gently used books to stock The Yego Library. Both academic and non academic books (as long as they do not contradict the Christian faith). This book drive is a triple gift:
(i) Children from a small village will get access to books thus opening the world to them,
(i) A wife will be able to honour the memory of her late husband, and,
(ii) She will fulfill their dream on his behalf.
