In 2021, I made a conscious decision to go back to one of my favourite past times, which happens to be writing. I decided to intentionally rebuild the writing muscle that I had not exercised in a long time. It was not easy to start writing again; it took a lot of small starts, daily wins and losses and an active cheering squad of a few close people to get me back on track. It began slow but sure, and I got off to writing again. Most of the time I would do short article pieces to get my writing neurons active, an exercise that proved very useful because it got me to make small but steady steps.
In 2022, as I worked on my Thesis that now was one of my active writing projects alongside the short articles I was doing, I was reminded of an unfinished project. There was a book my Father had begun to write and at his demise, it remained incomplete. I mustered all my courage and began to rack my brain to finish it. It has taken, God’s grace, the Holy Spirit’s gentle guidance and a lot of patience with myself and the whole writing process to complete the book.
In 2023, I took my commitment to writing activities and better to the next level by joining a writing class. It was a group to learn and grow together while keeping me accountable for the completion of my first manuscript that would one day be birthed into a book. It has been a beautiful journey as I have seen myself flower into a better and more committed writer and have finally seen my first manuscript see the light of day. I am excited for the days ahead and look forward to even daring myself to write one book per year as I contribute to the literary wealth of the African Continent.
