If God Put a Fire in You, Don’t Apologise for the Smoke: How Fear Left When I Focused on Freeing One Reader – Robinson Mokua

My name is Robinson Mokua. I am married to one wife, with five children and eight grandchildren. I worked at Standard Chartered Bank from 1980 to 2005, when I migrated to America in search of greener pastures, only to land on a concrete pavement with no grass. But I thank God, for He has been amazingly gracious to me.

I am the vision carrier and Director of Maono Prayer Center, a spiritual clinic located in Embakasi, Nairobi County. I use this spiritual clinic to do spiritual counselling for the body of Christ. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Transformational Christian Ministry.

What I Was Writing About

I wrote a book titled Prayer Demystified. I wrote this book because, like me, too many gullible believers are hurting and broke while “self-sent prophets for profit” get rich. I am not a scholar, but just a wounded watchman God healed and sent. Ezekiel 33:7.

I am a follower of Christ with a burden to see prayer stripped of manipulation. As a victim among gullible Christians, I wrote about how prayer has been hijacked for selfish gain in the church.

The motivation was righteous anger and compassion. I watched gullible Christians lose money, dignity, and faith to pulpits selling miracles. I had to expose the lies and teach the truth of biblical prayer. Matthew 21:13.

Encountering Writer’s Block

Yes, I did encounter mental blocks while writing this book. By nature, I am an emotional person. I get disturbed when I see innocent people being abused in the name of Christ. Therefore, on some days, I lacked suitable and appropriate words, and I lacked the right tone of language. So, the topic felt too heavy and dangerous.

The problem is that when I tell the naked truth, I sound combative and confrontational. On the flipside, when I write to impress, I get convicted by my calling. When all these collided with the American stressors, I encountered writer’s block.

By God’s grace, I overcame it by praying before I typed and remembering the gullible victims. I therefore had to write one truth at a time. Fear left when I focused on freeing one reader rather than fighting every false teacher. Hence, I had to be bold but, at the same time, take care of others’ emotions as well. 2 Timothy 1:7.

Handling Feedback During the Writing Class

Nobody frames criticism and hangs it on the wall. Proverbs 15:12. Negative feedback is like an ego sting. We are built to avoid it like Ebola. Yet criticism is a home for personal growth because positive feedback feels good, while negative feedback makes us better.

When negative feedback tested my motive, I asked: “Is this true? Is it loving? Is it biblical?” If yes, I kept it. If not, I cut it. Galatians 1:10.

Prioritising My Writing Journey

I treated writing like tithing my time. The first hour went to prayer and Scripture, the second to family, then I wrote before the world got loud. I said no to good things so I could say yes to making choices that align with God’s will and advance the gospel. Ephesians 5:16.

My Experience With the Writing Class

The class gave my message structure and strength. I thank God for Dr. Muthoni’s lectures, which helped me channel my passion into clear, well-organised chapters.

The class was truly beneficial, and I would recommend it to anyone with a truth to share but who needs help putting it into writing. Jeremiah 20:9.

My Word to Aspiring Writers and Beginning Authors

For the new aspiring writers, my message or advice to them would be simple:

“If God put a fire in you, don’t apologise for the smoke. The church doesn’t need another celebrity in the name of the Gospel; it needs truth tellers. Write even if your hands shake. Robbers hate light. Turn your light on and scare them away.” Matthew 5:14.

Closing Reflection

My writing journey in CLC Kenya’s Writing Class helped me carry a difficult but necessary message with greater clarity, courage, and structure. What began as a burden in my heart became a manuscript shaped by prayer, feedback, discipline, and the grace of God. My desire is that Prayer Demystified will help believers return to the truth of biblical prayer, free from manipulation and full of faith.

Shalom!

CLC Kenya Celebrates 16 Graduating Writers from the Jade Writing Mentorship Class

CLC Kenya joyfully celebrated the virtual graduation of 16 writers from the Jade Writing Mentorship Class, marking another milestone in raising Christian authors across Africa.

Facilitated by Jackline Ingasian and hosted by Dr. Muthoni Omukhango, the graduation brought together writers from Kenya, South Sudan and Zimbabwe who have completed manuscripts across various genres, including memoirs, marriage guidance, Christian living, parenting, children’s devotionals, inner healing, financial stewardship, leadership, and discipleship.

#Graduation Flip Book

During the ceremony, each writer shared their writing journey, the inspiration behind their book, and the lessons learnt through the mentorship process. The event also highlighted CLC Kenya’s wider mission of advancing the gospel through Christian literature, a mission connected to CLC’s global work across 44 countries.

The CLC Kenya’s Writing Class has continued to grow since its beginning in 2020, raising writers who are not only completing manuscripts but also preparing to publish books that will serve families, churches, communities, and nations.

The 2026 graduating writers were encouraged to move forward into the publishing and marketing phase, with the hope of celebrating their published works in 2027 with an in-person graduation set for 28th November 2026 at Garden Estate.

As the session closed in prayer and thanksgiving, the charge was clear: graduation is not the end of the journey, but the beginning of greater stewardship. These writers carry stories, testimonies, teachings, and messages that can impact Africa and beyond.
